The Generation Splice

Dec 27, 2020

Happy Holidays! This week Raphael and Raquel cover Raquel’s favorite Xmas movie, LOVE ACTUALLY. Is this is the wonderfully funny and happy film that Raquel loves? Or is this the creeptastic male gaze extravaganza that Raphael believes it to be? Is it cool to arrange a spontaneous Beatles singalong? Is this a fun interweaving of Xmas tales, or just a meandering mish mosh of too many cooks? Are romcoms dangerous to our psyche or just escapist fantasy? Is love like trench warfare? Listen and judge for yourself!

The Generation Splice is film podcast where retired psychologist Dr. Raquel Martinez, a Baby Boomer through and through, and her son Raphael Jose Martinez, a cranky Millenial punk rocker, former music journalist, and current film writer, discuss various films through the lens of their generation & personal experiences. Every week one host picks a film for the two of them to dissect and see if they can splice together the generation gap via their love of the movies.

Feel free to write to us! Give us some film suggestions at generationsplice@gmail.com or @gensplicepod on Twitter.

Raphael is on Twitter at @citycelluloid. You can find his film writing at cinefile.info and film-cred.com

The show is produced by The Martinez Family & the show’s theme song was written, performed, & produced by Raphael.
